Vibrio natriegens is one of the fastest growing microbes. To gain some insight into why such a fast growing species does not take over the oceans, we assessed possible trade-off of fast growth with other physiological properties. E. coli is known to exhibit lower yield, longer lag (during nutrient shift) and faster death when growing faster. I will report these physiological attributes for V. natriegens, as well as other traits such as related to chitin degradation and temperature response.
